Reference data is data used to organize, categorize or classify other data, being an authorized and reliable foundation for data used across business or science. It is typically static or changes slowly over time. Typical examples for business reference data are country codes or corporate codes. Typical scientific reference data refers to units of measurement, amino acid codes, and nucleotide codes, as defined by IUPAC (International Unit of Pure and Applied Chemistry).
